Dear friend,

Mark your calendars; my office is hosting an open house this Saturday, January 28th, from 11 am-1 pm! Stop by and meet me, my staff, Captain Lieb, your local BAC members, representatives from the Springfield Arts Guild, and the Franconia Museum. We are excited to meet you and answer any questions you may have.

The Springfield Art Guild will hold an art raffle and accept non-perishable food donations to support the ECHO food pantry.

No RSVP is necessary. I look forward to seeing you there!

I'm also excited to announce the inaugural ConnerStrong Foundation "You're Not Alone" 5K Fun Run! This community outreach event, taking place in Kingstowne, will bring together local community-based resources focused on wellness, mental health, and suicide prevention.

The event takes place on Saturday, March 25th, at 7:30 AM.

Several obstacles, such as homelessness, unemployment, or hunger, can influence mental health. Our goal for this event is to make residents aware of available resources and collect food and clothing donations to support our community.

All of the non-perishable food and money raised from this event will help two local community food banks, The Koinonia Foundation, Inc. and United Community. These two organizations support disadvantaged residents in Franconia District and serve over 22,000 families annually.

Thank you to our partners, ConnerStrong Foundation, Celebrate Fairfax, and Federal Realty Investment Trust, for making this possible!

Please contact my office if we can assist you.

SURVEY OPEN: Telegraph Road at Hayfield Road Intersection Project

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), in close coordination with Fairfax County, is developing multiple improvement alternatives at the intersection of Telegraph Road and Hayfield Road. These corridor alternatives range from improvements focusing on congestion relief to pedestrian-only modifications. Residents and travelers are asked to take an online survey (also available in Spanish) on the design alternatives detailed below. The surveys are open through Monday, Feb. 13.

In addition to a link to the survey, you can view analyses on pedestrian safety, environmental and tree impact, traffic, and stormwater management by going to the project webpage at: https://www.virginiadot.org/projects/northern-virginia/telegraph-at-hayfield.asp.

FCPD Firearm and Ammunition Disposal Program

Interested in safely turning in a firearm or ammunition? FCPD can help.

The best way to is to call their non-emergency line at 703-691-2131 and request an officer come to your home. Make sure you leave the unloaded weapon in a safe place and direct the officer to it. The officer will verify the weapon is unloaded and rendered safe before taking possession of it.

Although, not the preferred method, you can also turn in a firearm at one of the eight district stations. Please call before arriving, make sure the weapon is unloaded and placed in the trunk of your vehicle, and separate from any ammunition. When you arrive at the station, leave the weapon in your car. Once you speak with the front desk, an officer will be called to the station to take the report and take possession of the weapon or ammunition.

Whenever handling a weapon, please remember to utilize the following safety rules:

  • Treat every weapon as if it is loaded
  • Keep it pointed in a safe direction
  • Keep your finger off the trigger

If you are not comfortable handling the weapon you are turning in, please be sure to call the non-emergency number to have an officer come to your home.

Thank you for helping keep our communities safer!

Dog Licenses Due Jan. 31

Remember that dog licenses are due Jan. 31, and every dog four months or older must be licensed! There are three easy ways to apply or renew your license: online, by mail or in person. The annual license costs $10 per dog, and payments by check, money order or cash are free. Renew or apply online or by mail through Petdata, the company that now provides all dog licensing services for the county.

Visit www.petdata.com/fairfax to renew or apply in person, visit the Fairfax County Government Center or Animal Shelter during the hours they’re open.

Last year, Fairfax County hired Petdata to provide licensing services, and this partnership makes it easier for pet parents to apply and pay for licenses. For example, owners will now be able to apply online for a first-time license unlike in the past.

For more information or questions, call PetData toll-free at 1-888-556-2906 or contact them online.
